Bug Fix Advisory - RHBA-2004:079-06
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary:
Updated grep package speeds UTF-8 searching

An updated grep package that increases the speed of searching UTF-8 encoded
files is now available.

Description:
The grep program is a utility for searching text files.

UTF-8 is a text encoding method for multibyte representations of
characters, and is the default encoding on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

A deficiency has been identified in grep's search algorithm. The algorithm
was found to be inefficient when searching UTF-8 encoded text. The source
of this inefficiency has been identified and fixed.

All users are advised to upgrade to this updated package, which resolves
this issue.
