Summary: Network & Academic Computing Services (NACS) provides telephone, network, and computing services in support of research, administration, and UCI's Electronic Educational Environment. NACS provides central computing services, computer laboratories, departmental support services, and campus-wide technical coordination.
Student Position is for the school year and Summer hours are desired.
(Applicants must be Registered as Full-time
or Part-time Undergraduate UCI students during the school year).
Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
MUST BE A CURRENT, REGISTERED UC IRVINE UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT (DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR).
DIRECTORY INFORMATION OPERATOR
Excellent Attendance.
Basic knowledge of Multi line telephone and the ability to use Computer retrieval system.
Ability to provide accurate and courteous telephone service.
Ability to communicate effectively with persons of varied socio-economic, cultural, ethnic and educational backgrounds in English.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers and supervisor.
Basic knowledge of function, and/or area of focus, of all campus departments.
Ability to simultaneously provide accurate/efficient service to multiple customers.
Basic knowledge of Personal Computers (PC) operation including the use of PC word processing software.Basic typing skills.
Final candidate is subject to a background check.
Position Description:
CAMPUS TELEPHONE OPERATOR
Answer incoming calls to the Operator Automatic Call Distribution system providing timely, professional, accurate and courteous telephone services.
Provide directory assistance for employee listings and campus departments using computerized retrieval system.
Make instantaneous decisions on emergency calls (i.e. police, fire, ambulance and telephone threat calls using appropriate procedures.
Maintain familiarity with all facilities, services, and functions, in order to provide appropriate information/assistance to all customers.
Be aware of daily changes/additions to special Operator Information instructions, critical number changes, special events, and emergency information. Report to supervisor any information or changes made known to you via callers.
Process calls as necessary to meet peak traffic demands.
Recognize and respond to (notifying a Supervisor) possible and/or actual equipment or system problems or failures.
Support NACS's goal of providing positive, innovative and effective customer service through performance of job functions. Work cooperatively with peers and other NACS units to achieve and maintain a strong customer service environment.
CLERICAL
Perform miscellaneous clerical tasks for various staff members such as typing, duplicating, preparing bills for payment etc.
Prepare materials for mailing, including collation, stapling, stuffing and labeling. File documents correctly.
Perform other miscellaneous tasks as required.Other duties as assigned.
Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.
