Summary: Network & Academic Computing Services (NACS) provides telephone, network, and computing services in support of research, administration, and UCI's Electronic Educational Environment. NACS provides central computing services, computer laboratories, departmental support services, and campus-wide technical coordination.
Applicants must be registered as full-time or part-time undergraduate UCI students.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
Should be able to work independently with little supervision; possess junior-level system-administrator expertise on Windows and UNIX-based operating systems (UNIX, Linux, Macintosh); be able to design/maintain/program the RCS website and database (http://www.nacs.uci.edu/rcs); have experience with one, or more, of the following research and scientific software packages - ArcGIS/ArcView, LabVIEW, Mathematica, Matlab, IDL, SAS, or SPSS; and be able to communicate/support members of the campus research community.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Good problem solving skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Strong motivation to learn and develop technical skills
Final candidate is subject to a background check.
Position Description:
Network and Academic Computing Services (NACS) Research Computing Support (RCS) group seeks a part-time student assistant to help with:
Programming/coding
Compiling research data
Providing support for client requests
Designing/Maintaining the Research Computing Support website
Other duties as assigned
Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.
