PROGRAMMER
APPLICATION DEVELOPER

Academic Web Technologies, NACS

Payroll Title:  Programmer/Analyst II/III

Summary:   As a member of the Network & Academic Computing Services (NACS) Academic Web Technologies (AWT) group, perform a variety of Instructional and Academic Technology Web development and programming in a fast growing, highly interactive, and dynamic group using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) technologies. The position also requires communication with wide range of clients while providing support and consulting. The User-centered interface design activities are also a plus for creation of usable user-focused applications.

Other Working Conditions: In an emergency situation, after hour call, or during a planned system outage the incumbent’s availability is required for off-hours system troubleshooting and any necessary repair to assure services supported are up and working.  

NOTE: *There are 2 position openings with this job description. Each position will be hired at either the Programmer/Analyst II or Programmer/Analyst III level, depending upon qualifications of the final candidates.*

Related Information

Broad knowledge of wide range of teaching and learning computing applications as well as administrative applications used within an academic setting.

Familiarity with the academic process, and the roles and processes involved in University environment.

Familiarity with JAVA programming.

Familiarity with modifying or creating CGI –compliant code or Perl scripts.

Particular knowledge of Java based Portal applications, complex Java programming, uPortal technology, importing open source applications.

Ability to chair and/or lead technical meetings, campus-wide committees, or technical teams.

Expertise and experience in requirements and persona/user scenario development, site navigation and application design, information architecture, user interface design, usability testing, and other aspects of user-centered development.
