Introduction

This manual is designed to be an introductory guide to the Unix systems at the University of California, Irvine. It contains the information you need to get started using Unix productively. References are also provided if you want to learn more about particular topics.

We suggest that you start with the chapter "Getting Started". It will help you learn the basics for logging on and off, issuing commands, and manipulating files. From there you can go on to the chapters on editing and the MH mail system. Be sure to read the chapter "Other Information You May Need"; it has important information on usage guidelines, printers and the network.
