FTP Windows

This handout is a comprehensive set of instructions to configure WinSCP to work with Windows.

The Network & Academic Computing Services provides technical support for WinSCP. The WinSCP software can be downloaded from www.winscp.net .

Getting Started

  1. From the "WinSCP Login" window, click on the "New" icon. (See Figure 1).

  2. In the "Session " enter the "Host address" (Students will use: ea.nacs.uci.edu). The "Port" should be 22. In the "Username" field, type in your personal UCInetID. In the "Password" field, enter your UCInetID password(Note: if you do not want your password to be saved leave this field blank). For the protocal please select "SFTP".Then click "Save" (See Figure 2).

  1. Next, choose a name to save the session as and click "OK". (See Figure 3).

  1. Then, from the "WinSCP Login " window, select the item you just created and click the "Login" button (See Figure 4). If this is your first time connecting it will warn you about the "Servers host key", please click on yes to continue (See Figure 5).

  1. Now you are ready to transfer files back and forth between your hard-drive and the server. The interface is Drag and Drop just like the regular Windows Explorer (See Figure 6).

NOTE: When you are finished, make sure you close out the program so nobody else can access your files.
