Configuring Entourage using POP
for Macintosh
Summary: Use the directions below to configure Entourage 2004 to check your UCI email using the POP protocol. Entourage is part of the Microsoft Office Suite.
NOTE: NACS only supports Entourage 2004. If you
encounter trouble using an older version of this program please update to the latest version of Entourage or switch to a different mail program
listed at http://www.nacs.uci.edu/email/settings.html
POP downloads your email to your local computer. By default, you will only be able to read your downloaded messages from that computer. If you need to access all your email from different computers, you may want to choose IMAP instead.
Configuring Entourage
- Launch Entourage
- From the File menu, choose New > Email Account. (See Figure 1)

- The New Account window will appear. (See Figure 2). Choose POP from
the drop down menu and click OK.

- The Edit Account window will appear. (See Figure
3).

- In the Account name field, type a title for this
account. Check the box next to Include this account in my Send & Receive All schedule.
- In Personal Information section:
- Type
your full name in the Name field.
- Type your UCI email address in the E-mail
address field.
- In the Receiving mail section:
- Type your UCInetID in the Account ID field.
Your
UCInetID is generally the part before the @ sign in your email address.
- Type pop.uci.edu in the POP server field.
- Type your UCInetID password. Check the Save password box
if you want to save your password.
Remember
that using this option will allow anyone with access to your computer to
read and send mail in your name.
- Click the Click here for advanced receiving options button.
- Check the box next to This POP service requires a secure connection (SSL) (See Figure 4)
- Click the small close box in the top left corner.

- Back in the main Edit Account window, in the Sending mail section:
- Type smtp.uci.edu in
the SMTP
server field.
- Click the Click here for advanced sending options button.
- Check the box next to SMTP service requires secure connection. (SSL) (See Figure 5)
- Check the box next to Override default SMTP port: and change the port
to 587.
- Check the box next to SMTP service requires authentication and the radio
button next to Use same settings as receiving mail server.
- Click the small close box in the top left corner.

- Back in the Edit Account window click OK to finish configuring your email.
You are now ready to use your email. When you want to check your email,
click on the Send & Receive button in the toolbar. If you have any
