What does the DCSLIB Mozilla support?

DCSLIB provides customized versions of popular software. The DCSLIB version of Mozilla comes with support for various media types including Flash, PDF and Postscript. Additional types of files can be supported via the mozplugger plugin (see below). Local disk cache of Mozilla is located at /tmp/moz-yourUCINetID, this location can be changed via Preferences (select "Edit" from the file menu, then chose the last option "Preferences." Chose the "Advanced" category then the "Cache" sub-category).

How to configure email

(Based on documentation from Dartmouth College)

To start configuring Mozilla to access your UC Irvine email select "Windows" from the file menu and chose "Mail & Newsgroups". This will bring up the Account Wizard. Click 'email'. Fill in your Name. Your Email Address should be in the form of 'yourUCNetID@uci.edu'. The Incoming Server is a 'POP' server and it's address is: 'pop.uci.edu'. The Outgoing Server is 'smtp.uci.edu'. If you wish to use a local POP, IMAP or SMTP server please contact your department Computer Support Coordinator or System Administrator of the server you wish to use for this information. Your User Name is your UCNetID. The Account Name can be left at its default value. Once you finish configuring your account and the Account Wizard closes, click on the 'Get Msgs' Icon in the upper left corner. A dialogue box should prompt you to enter your password, this will be your UCNetID password. This completes a basic configuration for getting your UCI email using Mozilla.

Please keep in mind that the NACS response center does not officially support Mozilla at this time. You may be able to obtain assistence from your department Computer Suppport Coordinator or from sources listed below.

How to use the mozplugger plugin

The mozplugger plugin allows for Mozilla to support various types of files that it normally would not be able to handle. It allows for you to define which external application will handle which file type. For example if you would rather use Xpdf instead of Adobe Acrobat Reader to handle PDF files you can edit your mozpluggerrc file located at ~/.mozilla/mozpluggerrc . To comment out a line, place a # at the front of the line. Applications for each file type are tried in the order they are listed in mozpluggerrc.

For more detailed information on customizing the mozpluggerrc file please read the man page.
