Tuesday November 24th, 2009 » Fall Quarter, Week 9
Summary: High Performance Computing (HPC) resources are available to UCI researchers. HPC resources include facilities at UCI ("BDUC" and "MPC"), and a host of computers available through the National Partnership for Advanced Computational Infrastructure (NPACI). The NPACI facilities include computers at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at UCSD, and at other affiliated universities.
Broadcom
Distributed Unified Cluster "BDUC"
Within UCI, "BDUC" is comprised of computing nodes donated to
the campus by Broadcom; the cluster is jointly maintained by ICS and
OIT and is available to all graduate students, faculty, and researchers.
"MPC"
Computer
Also at UCI, is the "MPC" Beowulf cluster that
is used for
parallel processing and is available campus-wide.
San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) Resources
Through the
Academic Associates Program UCI researchers have access to
large computational resources and data storage facilities at SDSC (UCSD).
Access to the SDSC machines does not require a proposal, unless significant
computational resources are required.
(Grad students who seek access to the SDSC resources must do so through their
faculty advisor.)
New accounts for the use of the SDSC resources are coordinated
directly through the
AA Allocation page.
Additional HPC resources are available through NSF, or at other universities,
though access to those machines usually requires a formal proposal to the NSF
to demonstrate need.
